Reading Skills : 3 (cr.) 600112

This course will develop the students reading skills, a range of reading strategies, an awareness of reading at different speed in different ways for different purposes, train them in study techniques and increase their reading speed. It will familiarize students with a range of text types to enable them to use all kinds of clues, both verbal and non-verbal, to help build up an overall understanding, increase their active and passive vocabulary range, and make them more a ware of the text meanings conveyed by grammatical structures.

Speaking/listening skills : 3 (cr.) 600114

This course will develop the students ability to hold extended conversation, their range of listening strategies, appreciation of appropriate functional strategies, and the ability to give a talk or presentation.

writing skills : 3 (cr.) 600116

This course will develop in the student an awareness of the writing process, the needs of reader, and task appropriateness. It will develop the student writing skills to the extent that they can write. A well-structured paragraph, a variety of text types, a summary of a given text, and whole text in response and to an acceptable level of accuracy. It also aims to familiarize students with the qualities of good writing by exposing them to a range of texts and text type.

Grammar of English: 3(cr.) 600251

This core course is the first of two courses , and between them they will provide a comprehensive survey of English grammar and provide the descriptive and analytical background necessary for the use of standard reference grammars .

Scientific and Technological Terminology: 3(cr.) 610243

This course will study a wide range of scientific and technological and documents and will provide contexts of international interests . It will give students the ability to compile specialized glossaries of vocabulary , expressions and structures that are used in such context .

Translation Theory and practice : 3 (cr.) 610441

A course devoted to the study of both the theory and practice of translation . It examines in detail different principles and approaches , with practical illustration and exercises .

Translation Project : 3(cr.) 610453

Students should choose a subject with the guidance of the instructor . They should make a presentation in which they have to explain the reason for choosing the subjects and its significance to translation. This may be the annotated translation of a literary work or a practical research to be presented in the form of a small dissertation of 10,000 words .

Word Processing for Editing : 3(cr.) 600475

This course provides students with the skills in the use of the computer to obtain well –edited texts . It will help to give them confidence in letter writing , to write with accuracy and without spelling mistakes , and will save time and energy when writing . They will be taught how to set margins , format text , use the synonyms dictionary , use the spelling checker , and how to proofread text on the screen .

Arabic for Translator : 3(cr.) 600435

This course will train the students to edit a translation to produce idiomatic Arabic . Focus will be on common structures that have been introduced into the Arabic language through translation . The dynamic equivalence of English expression and Arabic morphological are used in editing .
